Why?

Why small group learning?

The statistics are compelling: approximately 2 in 5 Australian students are not meeting the Australian national proficiency standard in reading and mathematics. Of students who are behind in Grade 3, less than 20% catch up with their peers. Additionally, a concerning proportion of students in Australia, compared to overseas, begin school without foundational literacy and numeracy skills. This has significant implications for their educational outcomes and also their mental health and wellbeing. However, there is a substantial amount of research that demonstrates small group tutoring can help bridge this gap. Research shows that students who participate in small group tutoring can achieve many months additional progress over the course of a year compared to the standard expected growth.

At Launch, we are passionate about small group learning. Over many years working in schools and classrooms we have seen, time and time again, the huge benefits of working more closely with students in small groups. This type of teaching allows us to explicitly model key concepts and skills while closely monitoring student understanding. We can continually adapt our teaching in order to support or extend students based on their needs in the moment. Students' skills and confidence dramatically increase which then allows them to successfully approach tasks within the wider classroom setting and beyond. Another benefit of small group learning is it's collaborative nature, allowing students to learn with and from others. This environment fosters enjoyment and motivation for learning. We acknowledge the challenge that teachers and schools face in providing this time for all students. Inspired by this, we started Launch to provide more students with more time in this incredibly valuable small group learning environment. We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to so many young minds!
