FAQs

What happens if my child is sick or cannot attend a session?

We would appreciate you notifying us by email at info@launchlearningcentre.com in the event that your child will be absent for a session. We will endeavour to offer you a makeup session at another time during that term. All makeup sessions must be used within the booked term. Any makeup sessions provided that are not fulfilled by the customer by the end of the term will be forfeited.

What do I need to know for my child’s first session at Launch?

We look forward to welcoming your child to their first session.

We are conveniently located at 325 Bay St, Port Melbourne. There is free 1 hour parking available on Bay St outside the centre. There is also free 2 hour parking in the neighbouring side streets.

Please see below for the items that your child should bring along to their session.

Ready, Set, Launch!: Snack and drink bottle

Small group/private tutoring: Drink bottle (from the second session on the students will need to bring their Launch folder which they will receive during their first session at Launch)

Can I stay for my child’s session?

In order to maximise learning and minimise distractions for all our students, parents and guardians will not join their child inside the learning space. You are welcome to sit in our reception area during your child’s session. There is also a great cafe next door, Hurricane Handsome, if you would prefer to go and have a coffee while you wait. There are a number of shops along Bay St if you have errands to run or the beach is at the end of the street if you feel like a walk!

What if my child has additional needs?

At Launch we believe in the potential of all students and we are eager to work closely with you to ensure your individual child’s needs are accommodated. With many years experience in the classroom, working with students with a diverse range of needs and backgrounds, we are confident that we can support your child. Please contact us directly to discuss your child’s individual needs.

What are my payment options?

At Launch you are able to pay online or in person. If you would like to speak to us about alternative payment options please contact us on info@launchlearningcentre.com or pop in and see us.

Why does Launch use small group learning?

At Launch we strongly believe in the impact of small group learning. There is substantial supporting research about its positive effect on student outcomes. We have seen this first hand over many years in the classroom. This type of teaching allows us to explicitly model key concepts and skills while closely monitoring student understanding. Some other benefits of small group learning include increased student enjoyment, motivation, and collaboration.

How will I know if my child is progressing?

All small group and private tutoring programs begin with a 1:1 assessment to gauge your child’s individual learning needs. Throughout the term we continually monitor your child’s progress against the term’s goals and success criteria. At the end of each term, you will receive a progress monitoring report. At the end of the school year your child’s last session will be another one to one assessment to measure their growth across the year.

Will my child get homework?

Your child will not receive weekly homework. However, multiple exposures when learning new concepts has been proven to have a high impact on student progress. Often there will be an option to practise an activity that relates to the work completed in the session. These tasks are designed to be quick, easy and fun and allow you to get an insight into what your child is working on with us. You can also look in your child's workbook to see what we have worked on in our session and do some more practise at home if you wish.

We respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners, the Wurundjeri and Bunurong people of the Kulin nation, for the land on which we live, learn and play. We pay our respects to their elders; past and present.
